Viva la bikini!

*Pictured is my newest purchase from River Island via ASOS*
Although I enjoy going swimsuit shopping every summer to update my pool/beach wardrobe, I also like to keep them all looking as new as possible, especially the ones that make me feel like a Brazilian Victoria's Secret model. I have put together some steps you should follow to keep your favorite suits looking amazing.
1. Wash suits ASAP. Bacteria, bodily oils, and pool chemicals can ruin the fibers if not cleaned. Do a fresh water rinse immediately with cool water. (Hot water is bad... that includes jacuzzis! Instead, reserve a cheap one for your winter hot tubbing :)
2. Hand wash. As soon as you get home from getting your fabulous tan, wash in a bin--I use my bathroom sink--with either a mild hand soap or a mild detergent like Dreft. Harsher soaps and washing machines can cause misshapen suits or damage cute embellishments.
3. Towel dry. As tempting as it is, DO NOT ring out or hang dry. Rather, you can put it on a towel, roll the towel up and gently squeeze. Lay it to dry, preferably out of direct sunlight which can cause fading or damage the spandex material.
4. Alternate! It is my belief that all things/products should be kept in rotation to keep it all looking tip-top. Bathing suits are no exception. At least have two, so the other has a full day to completely dry. No one likes a saggy bikini bottom :(
5. Prepping. Before taking your colorful new suit to "da beach", it is helpful to put it to soak for 30 minutes in a vinegar & water solution (1-Tbs. white vinegar to 1-Qt. of H2O) to keep colors from bleeding.
6. Sitting pretty. Ever notice the pilling and snags on suit bottoms from rough pool textures? Yea, me too. It sucks but is obviously avoidable by sitting on a towel, your cover up, or your generous boyfriend's tee (what's his is yours anyway right?).

Now you're ready to go out and turn some heads in your hot little swimsuit.
Have a good summer!
